Adapting to the Climate

Member Health, The Universe

As times passes, the fate of the planet becomes increasingly uncertain. Global warming continues to follow an upward curve with most countries, and individual citizens, simply not doing enough to reduce their carbon footprint. Additionally, international politics paint a grim image, where countries are ever-so-ready to wage wars and escalate tensions. Those in power, particularly on the national stage show a utter disregard, if not outright dismissal, for the consequences of their policies.

The majority of countries are still holding on to fossil fuels as their primary source of energy, even though renewable energy has shown sufficient evidence of being equally effective. Governments all over the globe need to act and contain the emission of greenhouse gases. Blame is not only on governments, but also individual citizens who fail to curb their consumption habits, even in the face of irrefutable evidence.

Individuals like George Freeman see the matter for what it is, and realize the need for having a proactive back-up plan for the human species.

According to recent studies, almost 1/5 of greenhouse gas emissions are a result of livestock production, and with a drastic increase in meat consumption the situation calls for a dire wake-up call.

Another factor that continues to pose an ever-looming threat is the volatility in global politics. In the 1960’s during the Cuban Missile Crisis, two superpowers, the USA and the USSR, nearly dragged the planet to the brink of a nuclear war, and we barely escaped extinction. With rising confrontation in the Middle East and elsewhere, and an ever-increasing nuclear stockpile world-over, an unwavering threat continues to make its presence felt.

Individuals like George Freeman see the matter for what it is, and realize the need for having a proactive back-up plan for the human species. And that plans includes adaptation of the human species towards a meatless diet, as part of our path forward here on earth.

As the planet continues to heat up, sustainable alternatives are our only options. While Freeman supports organizations like the NRDC, who are working to save the planet from pollution and corporate greed, he also wants us to stand behind projects like Project Blue, and Breakthrough Initiatives that are trying to achieve a breakthrough in the search for life beyond Earth. Now, more than ever, is the time for us to rise up and safeguard our futures and those of the generations that will succeed us.
